FIRST Tech Challenge Team 15534 is the most prestigious and competitive team in Exeter’s robotics club, and is Exeter’s most successful robotics team ever. Having earned numerous championship titles, the Team is respected in robotics communities across the world and serves as a benchmark for performance and innovation in all aspects of competitive robotics.
Candidates for the Team should have experience in robotics and/or the specialization(s) of the Team they’re applying for, as well as passion, dedication and a desire to learn. FIRST isn’t about just the robots, it’s also about business, marketing, graphic design, social media, outreach, and so much more; there’s a place for everyone!
The Team is divided into three subgroups: Mechanical, Programming, and Outreach. You’re more than welcome to apply for multiple subgroups! Those with less prior experience are encouraged to apply for the Outreach subgroup to gain experience in working on a company-like team while also having the chance to build on their technical skills.
The Mechanical Subgroup is in charge of the design, manufacturing, build, and development of the robot. Making extensive use of CAD softwares and custom manufacturing processes to produce parts from scratch, this subgroup is tasked with the design and build of the robot in a limited timeframe. To maximize performance, robot development continues throughout the season, with design changes and refinements happening on a weekly basis.
The Programming Subgroup is responsible for the software development of the robot. Primarily using Java, this subgroup aims to increase the robot’s performance in both autonomous and tele-operated periods. Last season’s highlights include creating a custom vision program to accurately identify the location of game elements, as well as pioneering an odometry system to track the robot’s position and heading in real-time.
The Outreach Committee is responsible for the business, marketing, logistics, and community engagement aspects of our team. Members of this committee work to increase our team presence and the impact we have on the world. Responsibilities include organizing and hosting large events, maintaining a strong media presence, managing sponsorships and funding, designing team logos and graphics, and forming connections with professionals in the STEM field. The Outreach Committee leverages entrepreneurship to push the team forwards.
Unfortunately, the Team is no longer accepting applications at this time for the Mechanical and Programming subgroups. The Outreach Committee is still accepting applications on a rolling basis. Thanks!
